victor,

hope you won't mind this long reply.
although i haven't examined your teeth, i can definitely say that if a tooth has a history of prolonged (like more than 30 minutes) pain, then it is already non-vital (or dead).
when other parts of the body are injured, swelling is one of the reactions. unfortunately for the pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains blooed vessels, nerves, etc), it cannot swell since it is contained within the hardest structure of the human body. it's similar to a brain injury- the brain can't swell since it is enclosed within the cranium- bone.
for a swollen brain, doctors can give you medicines to reduce the swelling or at the extreme, they'll open you up to release the pressure from the swelling. i'm sure you've heard about this. however, you can't do such thing to a tooth.
the increased pressure inside the pulp will impinge the nerve, kaya masakit, and blood supply, which carry O2 and nutrients will be cut off.
in other words, there's no second change for the teeth unlike the brain!
in this case, root canal or apicoetomy or extraction can be done. if RC is beyond your finances, then you have no choice but to have it removed. if i were you, i'd have it removed at the earliest. i don't think you'll lose fitness as long as the bunot is done without trauma, meaning, madali ang pag bunot. 2-3 days would be enough rest if there are no complications. besides, you still have two months to hone your fitness.
intense training can lower your resistance, as you have mentioined and this conditione can cause a flare up of your condition.
again, my advise is to have it removed annd have all cavities filled up.
i honored to have help.
