A New Bike In My Stable
Cycling is much like equestrian. An equestrian rider can not excel on a bad horse, like a cyclist can not succeed on a terrible bike. No matter how good the rider is, nor the cost of the equipment is – the rapport of the rider with his bike is still the x factor. A cyclist can ride any bike, can perform tricks on other’s bike, and even win races on his teammate’s bike, but can not perform as well unlike on his own beloved bike.

I am a competitive cyclist for 16 years now, or more than half of my life. Although, I have a number of bikes and frames, about 10 different foreign brands and 5 locally custom-made, there are favorites and memorable that I treasured more than the others. These are the bikes I rode my very best and brought home with me success and honor. These are the bikes that I am most comfortable, I am most confident, and I feel most supreme. My winning bikes that brings sweet and victorious moments.
About five months ago, I have a new addition to my stable, a hand-crafted in the USA Six 13 ‘06 cannondale frame courtesy of a generous sponsor, Cannondale Philippines Washington Ong. It is an alloy of carbon and aluminum frame I set up with 10 speed
campagnolo chorus on my R-500 training wheelset with vittoria tires during training rides, and mavic helium wheelset with Michelin pro race during competitions.
The first major local race I won on Six 13 Cannondale bike was the Valentines Day race in Tagaytay, participated by around 300 cyclists. It is the first major and crucial race of the year since it also served as the elimination race for the upcoming tour in April, and the 1st leg of the national open in the road racing category. Out of the 300 participants, I placed second in the general classification. I am quite satisfied with the result and my performance on the bike knowing that I am a week behind my training schedule before the said race. Another major race I won using the same bike is the yearly race in Mangaldan, Pangasinan. It is an important sign that I finally bonded with the new steed, since I am able win this race I used to win a number of times on one of my favorites.
Important notes in my training diary about the bike that should be pointed out are: its excellent ride on climbs that doesn’t require much out of the saddle or standing positions while pedalling; it is lightweight which makes it very competitive specially in climbs; excellent ride in flats and criterium race. I am looking forward on riding the bike in the upcoming tour this summer.
